ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Computer Science is a young and very active research area at Brown. Since becoming a department in 1979, Computer Science has established cooperative programs with many other areas of the University. The department provides a wide variety of research opportunities in areas that interface with Computer Science, including Applied Mathematics, Cognitive Science and Engineering. Computer Science faculty associated with the Brain Science Program represent research strengths in artificial intelligence and robotics.
Brown has opened two new virtual reality laboratories this year, one of them the Center for Advanced Scientific Computing and Visualization, a virtual reality "cave."
